Google Doodle pays tribute to Angelo Moriondo: who was he and what did he invent?

On Monday, fans of Google Doodle and coffee around the world celebrate the birth of Angelo Moriondo, the Italian inventor who was awarded the patent for the first known espresso machine.

Google Doodle is a special and temporary modification of the logo on the Google homepage to commemorate special events such as birthdays, holidays, achievements and notable historical figures.

The doodle on Monday was painted with different shades of real coffee and presents a GIF from an espresso machine, Google said in a blog post.

Moriondo was born in Turin on June 6, 1851, which means that today is the 171st anniversary of his birth. He died on 31 May 1914 at the age of 62.
