At least 19 students and two adults were killed Tuesday in a shooting at a South Texas elementary school, the deadliest shooting in the state's history.

Lt. Chris Olivares, a spokesman for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said Wednesday that all deaths and injuries occurred in a classroom at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde. According to him, the families of all the victims have been informed.

Law enforcement officers killed the shooter, who also injured an unknown number of children. Officials did not disclose a motive for the shooting, but said the shooter was a local resident.

"I was hoping that if I became president, I wouldn't have to start all over again. Another massacre," President Joe Biden said during a speech at the White House. "Beautiful and innocent students of the second, third and fourth grades.”

Uvalde is a city of about 16,000 people located about 85 miles west of San Antonio. The shooting occurred four years after a gunman shot and killed 10 people at a high school in Santa Fe, Houston.
