miami dolphins five biggest plays in week 16 victory against new orleans
Smashing the five plays that most decided the score in Miami Dolphin's 20-3 win over New Orleans Saints at Caesars Superdome
The Miami Dolphins improved to 8-7 on the season with a 20-3 victory over the New Orleans Saints at the Caesars Superdome Monday night.
We rank the five biggest games in the game and the most important ones:
1. Needham Pick-Six
That's kind of a no-brainer, given that Nick Needham's landing gave the dolphins all the points they needed in this game. This happening on New Orleans' first trip to the game was equally significant because it didn't allow the Saints to reach any level of comfort in this game with rookie Ian Bock playing his first NFL game. Finally, big props to Andrew van Ginkel, who made the play happen by flipping the pass at the line of scrimmage and changing its trajectory.
2. Brandon Jones III Case
If the Saints were going to have a game of this in the second half, their big chance came after Marshawn Lattimore intercepted in the third quarter which was followed by completing a 14-yard put-ball at New Orleans 49. Remember that the Dolphins were only 10-3 ahead at that time, so the Saints were on After 51 yards the score tied. But that possibility ended when Brandon Jones came in for free third and eighth from the Dolphin 48 and dropped a book for a sack.
3. Elandon Roberts III Bottom Stuff Alvin Camara in the second quarter
Outside of garbage time driving in the late fourth quarter, the only time the Saints had anything offensive was in the second quarter when they drove 25 to Miami 15, where they faced off for third and second. The Dolphins' lead was 10-0 at the time, and who knows what kind of momentum the Saints could capture by ending the lead with a touchdown. But in that third and second round, Rickwon Davis and Christian Wilkins stood in the middle of the Saints' offensive line, allowing Ellandon Roberts to shoot across the gap and stuff Kamara without any gains. Then the Saints settled on the field goal after their unsuccessful attempt to draw the dolphins offside in the fourth and second places.
4. Complete 40 yards of Tua for Mac Hollins
That play came shortly after Jones' third sack when the Dolphins faced third and ninth from their number 15. With a three and a way out, the Saints were looking to grab a good position to start their next drive. Just down 10-3. Instead, Tua hit the right sideline and Hollins' superb catch set the stage for a touchdown trajectory that made it 17-3 and pretty much settled the score. Saints head coach Sean Payton clearly understood the importance of the play based on the long shot challenge after replays clearly showed Hollins making the capture nice and clean.
5. Austin Jackson Note Recovery
This was good play after bad play, and awarded the Dolphins three points. It was Tagovailoa's third sack that led to a flop that Austin Jackson was able to recover at the New Orleans 30-yard streak, enabling Jason Sanders' 48-yard field goal in the next play. Much fame for this play is attributed to Jaylen Waddle, who held off his rant as soon as he saw the loose ball rolling towards Dolphins' goal line a Saints defensive tackle as Braxton Hoyett attempted what looked like an easy recovery.
