Fast food open on Christmas Day? McDonald's, Wendy's, Burger King, Krispy Kreme

  Christmas will be the most magical time of the year, but the festive period can be stressful, which makes some people less inclined to cook for themselves on December 25th.

However, like most American restaurants, fast food restaurants can change their opening hours or even close completely on Christmas Day, which makes planning ahead an important thing.

To complicate matters further, some outlets in some chains will be closed while others will remain open on December 25th.

We've rounded up the Christmas Day opening hours of some of America's most iconic fast food restaurants, from Kentucky Fried Chicken to Krispy Kreme.

Please note that while Newsweek has contacted all of the restaurants featured in this article, some have yet to respond, so please confirm opening times with your local branch before making the trip.

McDonald's

Although some McDonald's restaurants will serve food on Christmas Day, others will be closed.

"Opening hours vary by location, but most McDonald's restaurants in the US are open on holidays, and consumers can use the store locator to confirm," the restaurant told Newsweek.

Wendy

Like Thanksgiving and Black Friday, many of Wendy's locations will be open and ready to serve you at Christmas.

A Newsweek spokesperson said: "Many Wendy's locations will be open and ready for customer service, but store opening hours may vary by location. To find out when your nearest Wendy's store opens for Christmas, please visit our location finder."

burger king

While the majority of Burger King locations have closed for customers on Christmas Day, some outlets in travel hubs such as airports sometimes remain open, which means checking before December 25 is advised.

Burger King told Newsweek, "Guests can confirm these hours at their local restaurant or online through the Burger King app."

Crispy Cream

Home glazed Christmas Day hours vary across the United States, which means it's advised to check with your local Krispy Kreme franchise before visiting.

Starbucks

Starbucks store hours vary by location and stores may sometimes adjust business hours based on business and customer needs.

A Newsweek spokesperson said: "We recommend customers search for specific store opening hours using the Starbucks app or by visiting their online store locator.

"The Starbucks app continues to be the best way for customers to find a store, check store opening hours, pre-order and use contactless payment."

Chick Phil A

A spokesperson for the fast food restaurant confirmed to Newsweek that its outlets will not open their doors on December 25.

They said, "Chick-fil-A has always respected Thanksgiving and National Christmas by closing it down to give members of the restaurant team time to spend with family and friends."

Domino's Pizza

The pizza shop said, “Nationally, we award franchisees (who operate more than 90 percent of stores in the United States) that day as 'optional.' In many smaller and more homogeneous communities, stores will be closed.

“In major metropolitan markets, where the population is more diverse, they will be open. Historically, for example, December 25th is a busy day in places like New York City. We don’t have an exact number to give you, but there are some that will open, and some that will not.” .

Dunkin' Donuts

Those who need caffeine and sugar on Christmas morning are likely to be out of luck, as many Dunkin' Donuts outlets will be open.

However, please note that store opening hours vary by location, so check with your local Dunkin' Donuts before heading out.

Kentucky

Colonel fans will discover that KFC is closed on Christmas Day and outlets open at reduced hours on Christmas Eve.

"Most KFC restaurants across the country will be closed on Christmas Day so that our team members can enjoy time with their families," the restaurant told Newsweek. "We recommend checking directly with local KFC restaurants to see if they are open during holiday hours."

Pizza Hut

Pizza Hut is closed on Christmas Day, but the world's largest pizza chain will return to normal business hours on December 26.

Taco Bell

Famous fast food chain Doritos Taco is closed for business on Christmas Day

A Taco Bell spokesperson confirmed to Country Living Taco Bell that Taco Bell restaurants are open on Christmas Eve. They said, "Opening hours vary on Christmas Eve and fans are advised to check directly with their local Taco Bell for their opening hours."

Papa John's

Papa John's opening hours on Christmas Day are known to vary, which means that it is advised to speak with a staff member to see if the pizzeria is open on December 25th.

Chipotle Mexican Grill

The fast food restaurant is closed on Christmas Day, but customers can order their favorite quesadillas again on December 26.

The restaurant told Newsweek: Almost all Chipotle restaurants will be closed on December 25. There are three locations at the airports that will remain open on December 25."

A Peet's Coffee spokesperson said: “Peet's Coffee has confirmed that all locations operated by Peet's Coffee will be closed on Christmas Day so that employees can enjoy the day with their family and friends. Some licensed partner locations may be open depending on the location/location (eg airports).
